The Story
The highlights from this video
When smoke and sparks erupt from your outdoor AC unit, it’s a homeowner's worst nightmare. That’s exactly what one Dallas family faced when their air conditioner decided to turn into a mini bonfire. This alarming event left them unsure if their trusted cooling system could be salvaged or if it was time for a costly replacement.
The issue stemmed from an overheating contactor, which ignited the capacitor, leading to a cascade of damaged wires. After a thorough inspection, we discovered that while the compressor showed no signs of grounding issues and the Freon remained intact, we had to piece together the mystery behind the malfunction. Our technicians approached the repair with caution, fully aware that any additional problems could complicate the situation further. Thankfully, the fan motor survived the ordeal, leaving us with a glimmer of hope.
With our customer’s trust in our expertise, we tackled the repair head-on. It was nerve-wracking, but the satisfaction of reviving their AC unit was worth every second. In the end, we not only repaired their system but also restored their comfort and peace of mind. Remember, if your AC starts sparking, don’t hesitate—call Medley for a reliable diagnosis and expert repairs!
Not exactly sure what caused that fire in that outdoor unit. Suspect is the contactor overheating and causing a spark, igniting the capacitor to blow in half, which ultimately fried and burned the rest of the wires. Was literally unsure of what it would take to get it repaired or if it could be repaired in this situation. You could have a bad compressor. I mean, we tested the compressor for grounding, wasn't grounded. We even tested the Freon to see if it was burnt. Didn't seem burnt. At that point, the only things that it could be would be the contactor capacitor or a locked compressor. Doing the repair was a little nerve wracking because we did not know what to expect. If we needed to do further repairs, if any other issues were present that we just couldn't tell. Fan motor survived. A whole lot of question marks, but our customer had the trust in us to make sure that we would take care of them and make it 100% right, no matter what the outcome. And just, I'm really glad that it worked out this time. Instead of something much worse. Definitely feels great to revive a unit. Call Medley.
