School Famous: Remember Their Names

We drive a lot at Medley, visiting homes to take care of our clientsโ€™ HVAC needs, of course, or to pick up a round of tacos for the office (https://www.sainttaco.com). On our commutes, we drive past many of Carrolltonโ€™s public schools, and it began to dawn on us, maybe since many of our kids have Back-To-School on the brain- who are our public schools named after? We sling the names around all the time, but do we really know who the people were? Well, we did a little research!

Janie Stark Elementary

Janie Stark Elementary was named after a local educator who spent her entire teaching career at Carrollton High School, starting in the Roaring Twenties (1928, to be exact.) Her subjects were Spanish, math, typing and shorthand. She served as yearbook sponsor, and eventually became secretary to Superintendent R. L. Turner. She passed away in 1962,ย  and the very next year a new elementary school was named in her memory. She must have been an awesome contributor to Carrollton education.

Jerry Junkins Elementary

Jerry Junkins Elementary School is named after the former CEO and Chairman of the Board for Texas Instruments, whoseย trueย passion was improving education. He utilized the resources at TI to help create model Head Start programs in the Dallas Independent School District.ย  He was Chairman of the Citizens Council Education Committee, and promoted measurement and accountability in the classroom. He was recognized for his work in early childhood education with the John B. Connally Award from the Just for the Kids Foundation.

Tom Landry Elementary

If you or anyone you love is a football fan, then you probably know who Thomas Wade Landry (1924 โ€“ 2000) was, but if not, in addition to an incredible career ascent to get there, he became the first head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, holding the position for 29 seasons. He compiled a 270โ€“178โ€“6 record, the fourth-most wins all-time for an NFL coach, and his 20 career playoff victories are the second most of any coach in NFL history. He was named NFL Coach of the Year in 1966 and the NFC Coach of the Year in 1975. With the Cowboys having so many Super Bowl appearances, and being on television more than any other NFL team, the Cowboys received the label of โ€œAmericaโ€™s Teamโ€, a title Landry didnโ€™t like because he felt it would bring a jealous competitive spirit against the Cowboys. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990. When coaching on the sidelines Landry always wore a suit and tie with his trademark fedora.

Harry C. Withers Elementary School

H.C. Withers Elementary School was named after North Texas journalist and community leader, Harry Clay Withers (1880-1959). He began his journalism career in 1901 reporting for the Denton Record chronicle, then the Houston Post, and then the Dallas morning News where he wound up working in virtually every department of the paper, retiring as executive editor.

Be sure to tip your hat the next time you pass one of these institutes of learning. We hope the inspiring accomplishments of their namesakes will inspire the Carrolltonians of tomorrow!

Celebrate Dad Outside โ€” Then Chill Indoors with Medley

Happy Fatherโ€™s Day, Lone Star State! As we celebrate the dads in our lives this June, itโ€™s time to get out and do things that pops will appreciate! That doesnโ€™t change the fact that the Texas ย Summer is coming in louder than a chorus of katydids. Call Medley for an AC Tune Up and IAQ assessment, and then get out there and celebrate. Your cool, healthy indoor climate will be waiting to welcome you when you return. Here are Medleyโ€™s favorite dad-approved outings this June:

Dadโ€™s No Drone (But He Might Like To Race Them!)

Dad will feel like a kid again- with the chops of a maverick- when he races, or watches a drone race through the proverbial wild blue yonder at a Dallas Drone Racing event in Carrollton! To enter the race there are some hoops to drone through first. Heโ€™ll need to join the Academy of Model Aircraft (AMA) as either a full AMA memberย or aย Park Flyer, register as a recreational (modeler) flyer with the FAA, and buy a drone! These are opportunities for someone with the means and inclination, of course. However, itโ€™s also just as much fun to watch! Dallas Drone Racing is a Tier 1 Chapter of MultiGP providing race events to the public in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Drone on, dad!

Witness The Cutting of the Rug

You know we Texans like our two-steppinโ€™, but why limit it to just two steps? Check out the 2022 Annual Texas Jam Line Dance Conference- โ€œ3 days of great music, a free health fair, powerful and informative conferences, dance workshops with many of the leading soul line dancers in the U.S.โ€ and more! Itโ€™s neither achey, nor breaky, just pure Texas rhythm and a whole prairie-sized dance floor full of fun. Sign dad up for a class while youโ€™re there, and next year he just might don his dancing boots.

Shaken, Not Stirred

Head over to Lambertiโ€™s Ristorante & Wine Bar and celebrate National Martini Day with Bondโ€™s signature cocktail. Whether dadโ€™s an โ€œup with olivesโ€, โ€œdirtyโ€, gin or vodka guy, or would just love a heaping dish from Lambertโ€™s broad menu of Italian favorites, thereโ€™s something for everyone at this well-loved Irving, TX staple. Mangia!

For the ultimate, practical gift for the dad who has it all, call Medley today to schedule a visit. Weโ€™ll tune up your AC, make sure it runs efficiently for the rest of the summer, and keep you in great standing with your warranty. Weโ€™ll also be happy to take a look at your indoor air quality to rid your home of mold, mildew, allergens, and other unhealthy particulates. Weโ€™ll use state of the art technology like filtration and UV lights that will rival any trip to dadโ€™s high-tech happy places (Brookstone or The Sharper Image come to mind.) Scheduling an HVAC maintenance service is a preemptive power-move that makes sure youโ€™re getting the best performance from your HVAC system, in the most cost-effective manner possible. Our licensed experts are background-checked, fully insured, and ready to help your HVAC system hum. Dad will so vibe on that!

A Medley Of Good Works: Ways To Give Back Around Carrollton, TX

Medley Home Services wants to thank you for trusting us to provide you with the best in HVAC Services all year round. Thanksgiving season is a special time to feel the deep gratitude for all we have, especially with the challenges weโ€™ve all recently faced. Itโ€™s also a great time to take that gratitude and turn it into action to help those in need. There are so many deserving and needing non-profits and charities throughout Carrollton, Coppell, Lewisville, Farmers Branch, Plano, Flower Mound, Allen, Highland Village, and Frisco. Here, weโ€™ve compiled a short list to get you started. The amazing, unexpected thing about giving is how much you truly receive in return.

Beaโ€™s Kids

Beaโ€™s Kids was founded in 1990 by Bea Salazar, a disabled mother of five, when she began feeding hungry children from her Carrollton apartment complex, after witnessing a small boy looking for food in the dumpster. Her efforts began to expand, as her group of kids grew in number. She even found herself helping the kids with their homework. Soon she was fighting on their behalf in ways that included addressing illiteracy, school dropout, domestic strife, drugs, violence, gangs, and poverty. One woman changed the world for North Texas kids, but knew that to successfully do the good work, sheโ€™d need a team. Beaโ€™s Kids, the nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency was born. Beaโ€™s Kids serves more than 200 students, K-12, living in low-income apartments. Their camp, โ€œTry New Thingsโ€ helps bridge the gap in progress that occurs when kids donโ€™t engage in academic and social development over the summer months, and provides activities in the areas of Art, Literature, Science, and Life Sciences.

We all appreciate the healing companionship of a dog or cat. These two non-profits are in service of our furry friends. Check out the sites for more info, as well as adoption events, and just to see the adorable pics of pups and kitties.

Lost Paws Rescue

Lost Paws Rescue of Texasโ€™ mission is to prevent animal suffering and cruelty, as well as to educate about spaying/neutering, and responsible pet ownership. They also help the homeless animals in the Dallas-Fort Worth find loving forever homes!

Operation Kindness

Operation Kindness is a pioneer in North Texas for providing assistance to homeless cats and dogs in a no-kill environment, advocating humane values, supplying companionship and medical care until each is adopted into a responsible home.

Trumpets 4 Kids

Hereโ€™s another story to pull at your heartstrings (or, blow its horn?) In 2007, founder Freddie Jones met two young girls and their mother in Grapevine, TX who had come to hear him play. The girls were very interested in music, but their mother did not have the financial resources to buy a trumpet. Freddie decided to give them one. After working with small groups of students whose families and schools were not able to provide them with trumpets, Freddie began raising money, and formed Trumpets4Kids. Accountability and a strong work ethic are instilled from the moment a student receives a trumpet (they sign a contract agreeing to practice one hour a day,ย  they learn how to care for the instrument, and perform for each other often.) We know that learning music develops listening skills, assists in emotional development, enhances confidence, and has been linked to improved math, memory and reading skills.ย But, itโ€™s the healing, universal language of music, bringing people together that truly makes the world a more loving place.

We hope the work of these amazing people has inspired you. We all contribute to shaping our world, and this is empowering. Thank you for being our loyal customers. It is our honor to keep you and your loved ones comfortable, breathing clean, fresh air at home! We know it all starts there. If you need us, give us a call at Medley atย (972) 245-3132ย (orย visit our website) Hereโ€™s wishing you and yours a happy, abundant Thanksgiving holiday!

Medley Home Services Presents: Fall Fun In Flower Mound, TX.

Happy Fall from Medley! As you know, Medley Home Services provides the best in HVAC Services (including the best indoor air quality solutions, and furnace tune-ups) to Carrollton, Coppell, Lewisville, Farmers Branch, Plano, Flower Mound, Allen, Highland Village, and Frisco. We love where we work and live, and know you do, too! As the air turns crisp, and the leaves turn colors, itโ€™s a great time to get outdoors to celebrate Autumn. We thought weโ€™d focus on a few events happening in Flower Mound, TX this month, to inspire you and your family to enjoy this great community we call home.

Restless little ones? Change up the routine, and stimulate young minds by attending the Flower Mound Libraryโ€™s free monthly Pajama Story Time event, hosted every 3rd Thursday through December. Kids (and adults) will get a kick out of wearing their jammies, cozying up with their favorite blanket and stuffed animal while enjoying an hour of stories, arts and crafts, music and rhymes. This event is an innovative and stimulating way to wind down, have fun, and add a little more culture into this screen-driven world in which we live.

Flower Mound Community Activity Centerย presents the annual Pumpkin Dive. This unique event is the perfect bridge between Summer and Fall. Think of it as a combination of swimming, bobbing for apples, and pumpkin decorating! Bring your towel and swimsuit and dive for the floating pumpkins (there are multiple time slots for various age groups, from 3-12 years old). When you find your perfect pumpkin, the party room will be set up with everything needed to decorate your pumpkin!

Get a healthy jump on the candy and treats of the season by getting yourself moving at theย Lakeside 5K and Family Fun Day Benefiting Allyโ€™s Wish. The event includes a 5K run, a 1 Mile Family Fun Run and a Dress Up Contest. A day of activities for people of all ages, Allyโ€™s Wish and Lakeside DFW have collaborated to honor and celebrate the lives of the moms Allyโ€™s Wish supports. Allyโ€™s Wish, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded in Flower Mound, TX devoted to granting the last wish to young, terminally ill mothers with children. The event is also an excellent place to promote your local business, or even team-build, with opportunities to sponsor a water station, register as a group, or become an on-site vendor. And you can feel good about your participation, knowing every dollar you spend will be making an impact, changing lives, and benefitting the families Allyโ€™s Wish serves.

So, venture out and breathe in the fresh air of this special time of year. To make sure your air at home is clean, fresh, and free of airborne particulates, as well as ready to keep you perfectly comfortable, no matter the season, give us a call at Medley atย (972) 245-3132, orย visit our website.

The Cat And Dog Days Of Summer

Your Pets Want To Breathe Clean Air, Too!

Hello Texas! We know that air pollution and pet dander arenโ€™t good for humans. Thatโ€™s why our Indoor Air Quality solutions at Medley Heating &ย Air Conditioningย are so popular with our customers looking to keep their families safe and healthy when it comes to the air they breathe. But, what about our pets? It turns out the same risks humans face from poor air quality, exposure to insecticides, tobacco smoke, and fumes, are risks for pets, too!

We mainly tend to think of ourselves when evaluating an IAQ solution, likeย duct cleaning, an air filtration system, and UV lights, but pets are also exposed to air pollution, even their own dander (and the dander of other pets around them.) The consequences can be serious, like increased incidences of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, for instance. Pets in urban areas are more exposed to smog and exhaust pollutants, while their suburban and rural counterparts encounter insecticides, fungicides andย herbicides. All of them (and us) can be exposed to the effects of cleaning products and smoking, which have been linked to reduced lung function, and certain cancers. In fact, a study on the effects of pesticides by the Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine revealed that approximately 33% of the dogs of the number studied were diagnosed with canine malignant lymphoma, and that dogs had a 70% higher chance of getting lymphoma when exposed to pesticides in their yard.

There are ways to reduce your petโ€™s exposure to these pollutants. Choose your cleaning and gardening products carefully (ask at your garden store/department for less toxic alternatives) avoid smoking inside, vacuum frequently, and change your homeโ€™s air filter frequently.

Then, consider investing in an IAQ solution that will allow you the peace of mind to breathe easily every day, knowing you and your pets are more protected. Medley will test your air, then craft a solution for your home. Our IAQ solutions address the pollutants mentioned in this article, as well as the dust and debris that collects in your vents and ducts, and the bacteria, mold, and mildew that can thrive in your heating and cooling system. Every time you run your system, these pollutants are distributed through your home, whether you can see them or not. Donโ€™t wait for a problem to arise before you solve it. Get ahead of your health, and the health of your loved ones by finding an IAQ solution for your home today!

Medley helps the Carrollton, Coppell, Lewisville, Farmers Branch, Plano, Flower Mound, Allen, Highland Village, and Frisco areas keep their HVAC systems performing at top level, as well as find and implement the most effective IAQ solutions to keep families, friends and fur babies breathing clean, safe air. The Birth Of Cool: Medley Celebrates HVAC And America This July!

Hey hey, Texas! Itโ€™s that time of year again. Sparklers, cookouts, sprinklers, and a cool, air-conditioned house. But, it wasnโ€™t always that way. We sometimes take for granted how awesome it is to be able to flip a switch and stop the sweat! They say we owe a debt of gratitude to those who came before us, who paved they way for the comforts and freedoms we enjoy today. Well, thatโ€™s certainly true in the world of HVAC! While today, almost 75 percent of U.S. homes have air conditioning, it wasnโ€™t so cool for our predecessors. In the spirit of celebrating the birth of our great nation, Medley presents: A brief history of modern HVAC.

Let us introduce to you the โ€œFather of HVAC as we know itโ€,ย Willis Haviland Carrier.ย Carrier was an American (what what!) engineer, born in 1876, and a graduate of Cornell University. You could say that Carrier stumbled upon his invention by accident. Heโ€™d been hired by Brooklynโ€™s Sackett-Wilhelms Lithographic and Publishing Company, whose output was threatened by the East Coast humidity. Their pages were getting all damp, and their ink was running rampant in the steamy Summer air. Production all but halted. Morale was down. So, Carrier created a system to reduce humidity around the machines using an industrial fan that blew air over steam coils filled with cold water. When the humidity condensed on the coils, it resulted in dry, cooled air. Remember that old Reeseโ€™s Peanut Butter Cup commercial where the chocolate just โ€œfallsโ€ into the peanut butter? It was kind of like that. The system didnโ€™t just dry/cool the paper, it dried/cooled the employees, too! Production and morale were back up and running!

Carrier submitted drawings of his invention that would become the first modern air-conditioning system. The new air-conditioning system standards he created recognized that true A/C needed to control temperature, humidity, air circulation and ventilation, in addition to cleansing the air. The HVAC solutions atย Medleyย still uphold those standards today!

The household HVAC system wouldnโ€™t become a staple in the American home until the post-war boom of the 1950โ€™s (even after Carrierโ€™s โ€œiglooโ€ product demo at the 1939 New York Worldโ€™s Fair) as events like World War I, the Great Depression, and World War II all took precedence. But, American life was revolutionized by the increase in year โ€˜round industry and the advancements in climate control were a big factor in the great migration to the Sunbelt!

You can get a look at Carrierโ€™s first practical centrifugal refrigeration compressor from 1922 at theย Smithsonianโ€™s National Museum of American History! Road trip! Or, you can give us a call at Medley atย (972) 245-3132ย (or visit our website atย www.callmedley.com) and weโ€™ll bring the most updated version of Carrierโ€™s vision to you!

Medley Home Services helps the Carrollton, Coppell, Lewisville, Farmers Branch, Plano, Flower Mound, Allen, Highland Village, and Frisco areas keep their HVAC systems performing at top level, as well as find and implement the most effective IAQ solutions to keep families, friends and fur babies breathing clean, safe air.

Happy Birthday and stay cool, America!

Give Dad The Gift Of A Shorter To-Do List! A Very Medley Fatherโ€™s Dayโ€ฆ

Hello, Texas!

Father Knows Best! And sure, while weโ€™ve also heard great PR for the matriarchal side of things (and know the truth is probably somewhere in the middle) June is Fatherโ€™s Day Month, and itโ€™s time to celebrate the great dads in our lives! So what to buy for the dad who has everything? We at Medley feel like HVAC Maintenance andย AC Tune Upsย might just be the new necktie or wristwatch! For all the times dad took the trash out without being asked, or opened that difficult jar of olives you seriously wanted to heave across the room, why not show him how cool you think he is by arranging an HVAC Tune Up this Summer? Thereโ€™s no better way to officially usher in the hot Texas Summer.

Surprises can be fun. A new car, or set of BBQ toolsโ€ฆbut an AC that sputters out โ€œSurpriseโ€ right before conking out on a three digit degree day? Not fun. A preemptive AC Tune Up, before the Carrollton heat scores more points than Luka Donฤiฤ‡, and increases the peace of mind that comes from knowing you and your loved ones will stay cool this Summer.

Dad will also appreciate you hiring the best. The experts at Medley eat, sleep and dream HVAC technology, and we know our way around every kind of system out there. We donโ€™t hire any sub-contractors, weโ€™re always on the cutting edge of whatโ€™s new, and we keep our existing skills sharp. Our employees are all background-checked, and fully insured.

Not sure if yโ€™all need an AC Tune Up? Well, if youโ€™ve noticed any pinging, hot/cool spots, or musty odors, you definitely need us in your life. But even if we arrive and find a flawless unit, youโ€™ll rest knowing youโ€™re set. While weโ€™re there we can do a quick test of yourย indoor air qualityย to make sure the air you and your family are breathing is free from allergens, viruses, or other harmful particulates. Your health and comfort are as important to us as they are to you, and if the need is there, weโ€™ll discuss all of the indoor air quality (IAQ) solutions that best suit you and your budget. Your AC unit will run like new, efficiently cooling your home, and youโ€™ll be able to breathe a deep, clean sigh of relief.

So give dad something so much cooler than a tie this year. Call Medley atย (972) 245-3132ย or visit our website at www.callmedley.com, and show dad heโ€™s the best, but not the only one who knows best when it comes to expert home maintenance.

Happy Fatherโ€™s Day to all the great dads out there doing their best! We appreciate you.

Help Cool Moms Stay Cool.

A Very Medley Motherโ€™s Day, all month longโ€ฆ

May is Motherโ€™s Day month (thatโ€™s right, the whole month. Dads, youโ€™re up next!) and, as far as gifts go, we at Medley feel like HVAC Maintenance and AC Tune Ups might just be the new breakfast in bed and bouquet of flowers (okay, maybe in addition toโ€ฆ) Thereโ€™s just something about crossing a long overdue item off the home maintenance to-do list that says, โ€œI care.โ€ For all the times the mom-of-the-house has kept her cool, doesnโ€™t she (and the rest of the family) deserve to stay cool in the fast approaching hot Texas Summer? We say, she sure as sugar does. And yโ€™all do, too!

There are many motherly words of wisdom that have endured over time. Have you ever heard the saying โ€œA stitch in time, saves nineโ€? That may as well have been written by one of our skilled technicians (or their moms) because thereโ€™s no better way to help prevent surprise breakdowns than a preemptive AC Tune Up, particularly before the Carrollton heat really gets crankinโ€™.

Thereโ€™s peace of mind that comes from knowing you and your loved ones will stay cool this Summer, and the mom in your household will only need to worry about stirring that frosty glass of sweet tea (and, letโ€™s be real, the other 800 items on her list of responsibilities.) Show her you value her time, and her comfort, by making that call to Medley (but also, seriously, donโ€™t forget to pick up a bouquet of flowers.)

Mom will appreciate you hiring the best. Weโ€™re experts inย HVAC technology, and weโ€™ve seen everything throughout our years in the business. Weโ€™re always updating our skills to encompass the latest technology. Our employees are never sub-contractors. Theyโ€™re also background-checked, and fully insured.

Weโ€™ll fine-tune your AC unit so it runs like new, to efficiently cool your home. If your AC unit is pinging, youโ€™re experiencing uneven hot/cool spots, or any musty odors, get us in there pronto to get your unit ready for Summer. While weโ€™re there, weโ€™ll test the air you breathe to make sure itโ€™s free of mold, mildew and other unhealthy particulates responsible for a range of health conditions. If need be, weโ€™ll give you everything you need to know about choosing the right indoor air quality (IAQ) solution for you. Mom will be so impressed, and when she breathes a breath of fresh air, you can be sure itโ€™s really fresh!

So give us a call atย (972) 245-3132ย or visit our website atย www.callmedley.com, and
