Fall Tune Up Part 10 – The Sensor Test 🔥
The Story
The highlights from this video
As the chill of fall settles over Dallas, homeowners are turning on their heating systems for the first time in months. For many, this marks the beginning of a season filled with cozy nights—unless, of course, something goes wrong. One homeowner recently faced this reality when they turned on their furnace only to be greeted with an ominous silence. "I didn’t even know where to start!" they exclaimed, worried about the impending winter. This is where the team at Medley Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing stepped in, ready to ensure their heating system was up to the task.
When the technician arrived, he quickly got to work testing the furnace's safety features. "So now we know that all the safeties are working, the equipment will run," he explained, assessing the system's operational integrity. However, he emphasized the importance of testing the flame sensor, a critical component in maintaining safe furnace operation. This step is often overlooked by homeowners who are eager to get their heat running again, but it can spell disaster if ignored.
The technician proceeded to pull the wire off the flame sensor, demonstrating what happens when this component fails. "You should see that flame go out. That's exactly what we want to see," he highlighted, showcasing the importance of having a functional flame sensor. If the sensor is dirty or malfunctioning, it behaves just like it’s disconnected altogether, potentially leading to dangerous conditions—like gas leaks or system failures. Ignoring this can not only leave a family in the cold but could also pose serious safety risks.
After running through the test, the technician explained, "This time I have to put it back on because if I go three tries, it’s going to lock me out. I don’t want that problem." This remark underlined the delicate balance of furnace operation and the importance of regular maintenance checks. By ensuring the flame sensor was clean and functioning, the team was able to prevent future headaches for the homeowner.
Ultimately, the furnace passed the test, and the homeowner could breathe easy knowing their heating system was safe and reliable. The transformation from an anxious wait to the reassurance of warmth was palpable. With just a few simple checks, the Medley team not only restored heat but also peace of mind.
As winter approaches, Dallas homeowners should take a lesson from this experience. Regular maintenance, including checking the flame sensor, can save you from discomfort and danger. Don’t wait until it’s too late—schedule your furnace tune-up with Medley Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing today to ensure your home stays warm this winter.
So now we know that all the safeties are working, the equipment will run. We still need to make sure that it'll turn off properly, but before I do that, I like to kind of test some of the safeties to make sure that they won't let the unit run when they shouldn't let the unit run. So for example, that flame sensor that we had earlier, I'm going to pull the wire off of it. And we should see that flame go out. That's exactly what we want to see. Now, actually I'll take it back off. You'll actually see what it would do if it had a dirty flame sensor. It would do the same thing as if the flame sensor wasn't hooked up at all. So now this time I have to put it back on because if I go three tries, it's going to lock me out. I don't want that problem.
