Fall Tune Up Part 6 -The Little Port That Matters
The Story
The highlights from this video
As winter approaches in Dallas, homeowners are gearing up for the season's chill. Picture this: you’re settling in for a cozy evening, and suddenly your heater falters. It’s a nightmare scenario that no one wants to face. That’s why a thorough fall tune-up is essential — and it all starts with paying attention to the little parts that matter.
During a recent service call, our technician took a close look at the igniter of the heating system. "The next thing I want to look at is the igniter itself," he explained, emphasizing its critical role in the overall functioning of the heater. Igniters are delicate components, and even minor issues can lead to significant heating problems if not addressed promptly. The technician was particularly looking for any signs of wear and tear, noting, "Sometimes you'll get little white spots on them. That's not what you want to see."
What made this inspection unique was the technician's meticulous approach. He didn’t just check the igniter visually; he also took a resistance reading. "We'll go ahead and check the resistance through it, 48 ohms. I feel confident that it's just fine," he reported. This methodical checking ensures that every component is in peak condition, ready to handle the demands of the colder months ahead.
Ignoring a worn-out igniter can lead to more than just an uncomfortable home. If it fails completely, the heating system might not ignite at all, leaving you in the cold and possibly facing costly emergency repairs. That's a situation every Dallas homeowner wants to avoid, especially when the temperatures drop.
After confirming the igniter’s health, the technician checked the manufacturer’s literature for peace of mind before giving it the final okay. This attention to detail exemplifies what Medley Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing stands for — ensuring that your heating system is not only functional but also reliable for the season ahead.
By the end of the visit, the homeowner felt a wave of relief, knowing that their heating system was ready for winter's chill. "It’s such a good feeling knowing everything is working great!" they exclaimed. This simple yet crucial maintenance step transformed their anxiety about the upcoming winter into confidence.
So as you prepare for the colder months, remember that little parts can have a big impact. Don’t wait for a breakdown to take action. Schedule your fall tune-up with Medley today, and ensure your heater is ready to keep your home warm and cozy all winter long.
The next thing I want to look at is the igniter itself. There's two things I'm looking at here. I want to check the actual resistance reading of the igniter, but I also kind of just want to look at it and see if I see any buildup on the igniter. That can sometimes be an indicator that it's wearing out or getting weak. Now with these, you do have to be very careful because they are fragile. Sometimes you'll get little white spots on them. That's not what you want to see. This one here looks pretty good though. We'll go ahead and check the resistance through it, 48 ohms. I feel confident that it's just fine, but before I give it that final okay, I'll look up the manufacturer's literature to confirm that.
