The Story
The highlights from this video
When it comes to maintaining your HVAC system, the first step is often the most crucial: changing the air filter. Recently, we uncovered a situation where a homeowner was neglecting this simple yet vital task. With an old, clogged filter, their system was struggling to function efficiently, leading to higher energy bills and potential damage to the unit.
During our routine maintenance check, we discovered that the air filter was dusty and in need of immediate replacement. While a bit of dust is normal, this filter was a clear sign that it hadn't been changed often enough. We took a closer look, even using our phone to film the inspection inside the unit. Thankfully, there were no alarming issues, but the dirty filter was a wake-up call.
The key takeaway? Always pay attention to the airflow arrows on your filters. They aren't just there for decoration; they guide proper installation to ensure your system runs smoothly. In this case, positioning the new filter correctly made all the difference. By staying on top of your HVAC maintenance, you can avoid costly repairs and keep your home comfortable all year long.
We'll go ahead and start the maintenance and we'll just start by getting a new filter in here and seeing how bad the old one is. These folks definitely need to change this one a little bit more often. I'll look in here and see if I see anything that catches my attention. Little dust is to be expected. Nothing crazy. I can't see all the way in there so sometimes I'll take my phone, make a little video, watch that video playback. I don't see anything alarming in here. It's a little dirty but nothing scary. This is an April air filter. I like these a lot because they fit the cabinet perfectly. Every filter has an air flow arrow on it and it doesn't matter if you're in an attic and the unit is laying on its side or if the unit is in a closet. The direction of the arrows is always towards the equipment and in this situation the filter is on the left so the arrow faces to the right.
