Fall Tune Up Part 6 -The Little Port That Matters
The Story
The highlights from this video
As the cooler months approach, Dallas homeowners often find themselves gearing up for the heating season. However, many overlook a crucial component of their furnace that can make or break their comfort: the igniter. A faulty igniter can lead to an unexpected chill in your home, leaving you scrambling for warmth when you least expect it. "The little port that matters is often the one that gets ignored," said one of our seasoned technicians during a recent fall tune-up.
During this particular service call, we discovered that the homeowner had been experiencing inconsistent heating, which prompted the inspection. As the technician examined the igniter, he noted, "I want to check the actual resistance reading of the igniter, but I also kind of just want to look at it and see if I see any buildup on the igniter. That can sometimes be an indicator that it's wearing out or getting weak." This attention to detail is what sets Medley Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing apart from the competition.
Upon closer inspection, the technician observed that the igniter had some minor white spots, a sign that it was beginning to wear. However, it was still functioning within the acceptable range, registering a resistance of 48 ohms. "This one here looks pretty good though. We'll go ahead and check the resistance through it," he noted confidently. Still, he knew that it was essential to verify these readings against the manufacturer's specifications before giving the final thumbs-up.
Ignoring a weak igniter can lead to more severe problems down the line, including complete furnace failure. Homeowners could face not only discomfort but also costly repairs and potential safety hazards. With winter just around the corner, it's vital to ensure that your heating system is in top shape.
To prevent any mishaps, our technician took the extra step of consulting the manufacturer’s literature to confirm the readings. This kind of thoroughness ensures that we not only address current issues but also prevent future ones, providing peace of mind to homeowners.
Once he verified that the igniter was functioning as it should, the transformation was palpable. The homeowner felt relieved and grateful that they had caught the potential issue before it escalated. "Thanks to Medley, I can rest easy knowing my furnace is ready for winter!" they exclaimed, a testament to the value of proactive maintenance.
As we gear up for the chilly months ahead, remember that a little attention can save you a lot of trouble. Don’t let a small part like the igniter cause a big headache. Schedule your fall tune-up with Medley today to ensure your home stays warm and cozy all winter long.
The next thing I want to look at is the igniter itself. There's two things I'm looking at here. I want to check the actual resistance reading of the igniter, but I also kind of just want to look at it and see if I see any buildup on the igniter. That can sometimes be an indicator that it's wearing out or getting weak. Now with these, you do have to be very careful because they are fragile. Sometimes you'll get little white spots on them. That's not what you want to see. This one here looks pretty good though. We'll go ahead and check the resistance through it, 48 ohms. I feel confident that it's just fine, but before I give it that final okay, I'll look up the manufacturer's literature to confirm that.
