The Story
The highlights from this video
Imagine waking up on a chilly Dallas morning only to find your furnace acting up. The igniter glows, flames ignite, but wait—are those flames dancing around? That's not just a flicker; it’s a warning sign that could mean trouble. Homeowners need to pay attention to flame behavior because it can reveal hidden issues that might affect your home’s heating efficiency and safety.
When your furnace operates, the flames should remain steady and consistent. If they start jumping around or changing colors, it's a red flag indicating that air is seeping into the flame stream. This could compromise the heat exchanger, leading to potential safety hazards. While this is rare in newer systems, it’s a common concern for older furnaces. Homeowners should never ignore these signs; they can lead to costly repairs or even unsafe situations.
The good news is that a simple fall tune-up can catch these issues before they escalate. By ensuring your system is properly maintained, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing your furnace is operating safely and efficiently. Don’t risk it—if your flames aren’t blue and steady, it’s time to call Medley for a thorough inspection and to keep your home warm this winter.
All right we got action. Stuff is happening. You see the igniter beginning to glow. After that we'll see the flames ignite. It'll take a couple of seconds to sense the flame. Once the system has determined it is safe to operate, it's going to heat up the heat exchanger and then the blower will kick on. So one of the things I'm looking at now that the blower is blowing, I want to see how these flames behave. I don't want to see them jumping around and changing colors. I want to see them looking the same with the blower on as they look with the blower off. If they start bouncing around or changing colors it could indicate that air is entering the stream of the flame and that's no bueno. Could mean that the heat exchanger has been compromised. Very unlikely on a system this new to see something like that, but you will see it on older systems. If you ever come across that you have to decommission the unit, shut it down, and the homeowner has to make a decision on what they want to do from that point.
